The first 2 pages are an Easter program from 1897 from the First Congregational Church in Oakland, Calif. This a lenghty letter that Anna has written. She discusse the untimely visit of the Martin's. She mentions many people she is seeing and discusses work. Letter is unsigned.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
